Despite everything the rain continues washing away a multitude of sins.
APRIL RAIN SONG
Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
Langston Hughes
And then all of a sudden it stops and the sun is out. I was so busy making revisions to old stories today that I didn't even notice the shift from rain to sun. I was focussed on that shift when something comes clear after moving a few words around or removing a whole section. This morning there were micro shifts in meditation that allowed my mind to clear.
Like Langston Hughes I love the rain for its quiet gentle rhythm, a calming echo in the ear, but I equally love the sun when it returns.
April first is a return to innocence, the fool's simple heart.

"For the Lord said to me the He wished me to be a fool and a simpleton the likes of which was never seen before."
I have always loved this quote from St. Francis which speaks to the purity of not knowing, of making mistakes and learning, of pure belief in something beyond yourself.
