Here I am a day late again with my posting, but summer nights are to be enjoyed and filled with things other than writing blog posts. Last night I was out till 11:00 at a jam trying to pick up some new fiddle tunes. I'm still hopeless, but starting to get it a bit more every time I go. This was at the Howland Cultural Center up in Beacon. Second Tuesday evening of every month. Very fun. Today was a studio night and I spent most of it trying to work out the pattern on the Anyam Gila basket weave or the Mad Weave its called because it's enough to drive a beginner stark raving mad. I can now see why. According to the instructions the Mad Weave was given to female prisoners in Singapore to do as a form of torture. It is actually quite beautiful and if I can master it then I'll make a large basket or some woven paintings based on the pattern. By 11:00 pm, I was beginning to see double and doubt every under or over I'd made. I'll try again tomorrow.
On the ride home last night there was a big orange waxing moon in the dark sky. When I took the dog out there were fireflies blinking on and off across the grass. Tonight as I emerged from the studio I could see it had rained, but the air was muggy and still. Driving home I saw a young man seated in the wall just taking in the night. Too early to sleep. Too late to do anything much but wait for a sweet breeze. Life seems to go on forever on a summer night.
