OGT DAILY Day One Hundred and Thirty Seven GOOD HUMOR

So I missed writing on the first day of this light filled month.   With the summer solstice approaching and the sun sets arriving at 8:30 now, our days are filled with light, birdsong and blossoms.  There is, of course the rain, which has been relentless these past weeks, but when it eased and the sun came back the sky has been high and blue.  It's hard to remain feeling enraged, deprived and duped when the sky seems limitless.

There is always the darkness.  Goodness knows we don't need the rain to see it everyday.   One longs for the past season of hope, for which this season of stupidity is a radical adjustment.

It was with great pleasure that we left the reality of politics last night to watch our son perform in an unusual talent show at Urban Stages in Chelsea.  8-Ball Community, Inc, a non-profit performance co-operative, did this as their first telethon fundraiser.  Our son was the first contestant, singing his "Frog Song" a folk and protest song involving a talking frog.  The host was Freddie Kruger (Jaimie Warren) from Nightmare on Elm Street with a crew of zombies taking phone pledges and a band of vampires playing Fleetwood Mac covers.   Following Nick was an anarchist, nihilist puppeteer who used dolls heads and old skulls as marionettes al with a subtle dance and manipulation while playing the mouth harp in haunting tones.   Then came a woman who burped the ABC's - A to Z with eloquent gassiness, a spirited rap ensemble composed of developmentally delayed adults who invoked the T-word, and a meta-lesbian comedian.  We didn't stay for the end so we missed the Scottish sword dancer. and the harsh noise performance  We left just after the host was murdered by a band of zombies, but Nick reports that the winner was the prodigious burp queen.   Despite the dark humor it was a mirth filled evening.    You can see the whole thing on the newly launched 8-Ball TV at www.8ballcommunity.club.

Tonight I saw the first fire fly as a small light in the night sky.
