OGT DAILY Day Two Hundred and Fifty Eight INDIGO

A fabulous and unexpected day of wool!!   Sheep, felting, dying and knitting machines all thanks to the Woolmark Company.    September was Textile Month which meant a celebration of fibers in lots of venues around the city from FIT to the Met.    This Friday, all day event, was held at the Parsons School of Design Maker Space as a way to celebrate and educate about the virtues of the noble fiber.

Wool is one of the best fibers for dying with natural plant dyes and one of the most fun dyes to use is indigo.   One of the afternoon workshops allowed us to do just that.   A boiling cauldron of blue indigo and pieces of fine wool cloth folded in the Shiburi method of Japanese hand dying.
