No great events today. Just five miles this morning. I love walking in the cold. It's great to get out there and let all random thoughts bounce around in your head and loosen up. I find if I don't walk my mind is cluttered. If I do I can shake out all those thoughts which are obsessively swirling up there. Such a relief.
Today it was the movie Manchester by the Sea which was occupying most of the space. Its just a movie, but it packs a wallop. I will not give away plot points for those who haven't seen it. No spoiler alerts necessary. Just say its devastating and very real.
It's pretty much about brokenness; broken people; working class broken people. I couldn't help thinking that as much as Moonlight was a film for not only the LGBTQ cause but for Black Lives Matter, Manchester speaks to the white underclass which Trump calls his base.
It gave me pause and a measure of sympathy for those who might believe in him.
Here's to empathy and walking.
They finally removed the giant poison ivy covered tree which was laying across the path. A major chore. I could still smell the fresh cut wood and chainsaw when I passed by. When I returned the park's crew was trimming bamboo and I thanked them. I guess their jobs are safe as the trail is a state park, but I'll bet there won't be anyone trimming and cutting fallen trees off hiking trails in the Federal parks soon.
