OGT DAILY - Day Fifty Two MEDITATION

Meditation - aah yesss!   Just breath.   No matter how often I am reminded it is nice to come home.
I try to sit every day, but today thanks to my friend Laurie I was invited to a special meditation class at Hastings Yoga studio.

We were invited to lie in darkness on our backs with our knees propped; to be held in the support of the props and the quiet of the room and to open our hearts.   There is something rich and satisfying about meditating in the company of others; the community or sanga.   This was connectedness I was sorely needing.

Anahata - Heart Chakra

The leader was a woman appropriately named Joy who suggested that we meditate on the following mantra:   "This is how it is right now.."

An acceptance; a noticing; an including of all that occurs.  Just as with the breath it is moment to moment and can be renewed and repeated just as often.  "This is how it is right now."  Breath into it.  Accept it.   Anxiety, depression, boredom, elation.   We contain multitudes and anything is possible.
Joy asked us to believe in the magic all around us; the connectedness and flow of possibility which exists between us as humans if we open up to that.   The intention you send into to the world will return to you.  In the language of reiki practice this is the vibration you send into the universe.

That vibration which you emit with your energetic body will be matched by the universe.  This is the simplest early truth I learned twenty years ago when I discovered reiki:  positive thoughts have an energy just as negative thoughts do.   Each has their consequence.

"This is how it is right now."  Acceptance and an invitation to gratitude for what we have and what more we can open to.

This was a lovely way to end my day, but as I drove home I listened to stories of immigrants who are afraid of being deported by ICE for having a parking ticket or for receiving Food Stamps.   It's easy for me, a white middle class woman to say "This is how it is right now," and accept, but if I was from El Salvador and about to be shipped back to a home town overrun by members of MS13 who might threaten me with murder or rape if I didn't cooperate, I might not be so sanguine.

It is very hard to accept a lot of what is happening right now - today especially with health care repeal and new travel bans and ICE raids on immigrant homes, but meditation does help and we can offer our prayers as well as our support to those who are targeted and oppressed.
