OGT DAILY Day One Hundred and Twenty One RIVER

Today I drove north from the lower Hudson River valley where I live up to Albany closer to the source of the river.  I've come up here to lobby for common sense gun legislation at the state capitol tomorrow.  Crossing from Columbia County into Albany we crossed the river where it is narrow and wooded on both sides.  Where I live in Hastings-on-Hudson it is nearly a mile across.

The river has been a constant in my life for the past twenty years.  When we first moved to our house I was so captivated that I painted its image for many years.   The sky, the water and the Palisades are always changing color with the light, season and time of day.  I call the transportation show because you can always see boats of every size and shape, barges, tugs, sailboats, tankers - and airplanes and the steady stream of car traffic.  Non stop entertainment.   The Palisades themselves are something.  Basalt cliffs that exist nowhere else like this on the planet.  My uncle Pierre, who was a geologist. loved them for this.

I am forever in awe of this view and don't know how we will replace it when we move some day.
