My first time ever thanks to
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. They made it so easy and made me realize that a lobbyist is not necessarily part of the swamp that needs to be drained, but can be you and me and anyone else who wishes to meet with their legislators and have their concerns heard. Granted
Moms did all the homework and trained us on what bills we needed to discuss with various Senators and Assembly members, but it was really about meeting with politicians to learn how we can understand the process of getting these bills passed and what we can do to support their efforts in the Senate and Assembly.
Not only that but it was a gorgeous day in a gorgeous historic old building with like minded and enthusiastic fellow activists.
The capital building was completed in 1899 and designated a National Historic Landmark in the 1970's. It's a 220 ft tall granite structure in classical Romanesque style. We took a brief tour in between lobbying meetings to ride the senate elevator up to the see the Senate chambers with their gold leaf walls.

I sat in that middle upper bench today looking down at the Senate floor. A group of Girl Scouts sat opposite.
