The OTG Daily #43 Remembering Yourself

Here it is 43 days and I still getting it done.  Expect some slippage soon when life catches up with me. Yesterday was such a day, but I pulled off the slight-of-hand.  Today there was more time and room, yet my faculty for original thought was dim.

I spent a good deal of today just cleaning and wandering, in fact walking my usual route through the golf course chasing a pack of white tailed deer.

We had our studio celebration yesterday and much as I love the visitors, I need to quiet aimless meandering of my house and walks in nature to remember who I am. Cleaning out all the pots of chili, putting them away, sweeping the floor, feeding the cat about twenty times, and just generally remembering myself in the rhythm of my day.

Tending to visitors takes one out of the rhythm and its essential to settle back in.

I have been reading Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series about wizards and dragons and coming of age and identity. There was much talk in the fourth book about women and their claim to knowledge and power; the magic and power of everyday tasks and chores. The business of women in opposition to the great purposefulness of Mages and Kings.

Today was a day for forgetting so I could remember myself.  I am grateful for that.

A stone on my desk

How about you?
