The OTG Daily #20 Ritual

Every week I travel almost 200 miles to my workspace in one state from my home in another state, and then I travel back home again - a total of 370 miles plus or minus (yes I have an electric car!).  This travel allows me to continue to make a living and then return home and relax far from the concerns of my job.

This travel and return involves many small rituals, especially the return home. The ritual of return involves unloading my car, putting food away, picking up my grey cat and kissing her many times and, of course, feeding her - and kissing and hugging my partner! But before I can do anything else, I must visit with my plants, water them, give them a misting, and check for any dead leaves or especially signs of new growth.

Our new home with its south eastern facing windows gets the sunrise and morning sun and it loves plants.

I have three orchids making new flower stalk which I will wait for with great anticipation.

Ritual allows us to concretize and make manifest our existence, our coming and going on this plane of existence - whether it is spiritual or practical - a little ritual can anchor us to both the past and the present in the same moment and give meaning to the incessant wheel of time.

Such gratitude for my little rituals.

What are you grateful for today?
